| The end of M*A*S*H |
The producers of the series M*A*S*H knew, that it had slowly come to an end by season 10. CBS asked whether they wanted to continue, but the cast voted 4 to 3 that season 11 should be the last one. Alan Alda, Mike Farrell, Loretta Swit, and David Ogden Stiers voted for the end, Harry Morgan, Jamie Farr, and William Christopher voted against it. Therefore the series ended 1983 after 11 seasons with 251 episodes, the last being a big 2 hour send-off special. Nevertheless some characters survived in the 2 spin-off series AfterMASH and Trapper John, M.D.. Besides them there was also a plan of launching a third series called W*A*L*T*E*R. While M*A*S*H was still airing, a cartoon parody named M-U-S-H aired too. |

AfterMASH shows as sequel of the series the further fate of Col. Potter (and Mildred), Klinger (and Soon-Lee), and Father Mulcahy, who all end up in a veteran hospital in Missouri. A total of 30 episodes were produced and the series aired between September 26, 1983 and December 1984. Trapper John, M.D. |
Trapper John, M.D. is situated 28 years after the return of Trapper from Korea and shows him as chief surgeon of the San Francisco Memorial Hospital. A total of 151 episodes were produced and the series aired from September 23, 1979 to September 4, 1986. W*A*L*T*E*R was a pilot show for a planned series about Radar O'Reilly, once more played by Gary Burghoff, who joined the police after his return from the war. The pilot has been aired on July 17, 1984, but no further episodes were made. More... » |

M-U-S-H was not a spin-off, but a cartoon parody of the series M*A*S*H. M-U-S-H stood for Mangy Unwanted Shabby Heroes and was about police dogs stationed in Sibonia. The connection with M*A*S*H was found in the names of the policedogs: Bullseye, Trooper Yoe, Cold-Lips, Major Hank Sideburns, Colonel Flake, Sonar, Hilda and General Upheavel. More... » |
